ginseng (american ginseng, asian ginseng, chinese ginseng, korean red ginseng, panax ginseng: panax spp. including p. ginseng c.c. meyer and p. quinquefolius l., excluding eleutherococcus senticosus)	early small studies suggest that american ginseng may help treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in children. however, there is currently not enough evidence to support this use of ginseng.	c
iron	based on preliminary data, taking iron orally might improve symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (adhd). more study is necessary before a conclusion can be drawn.	c

omega-3 fatty acids, fish oil, alpha-linolenic acid	there is evidence that polyunsaturated fatty acids (pufas) may help treat adhd-related problems, including inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. more research is needed to confirm these findings.	c
pantothenic acid (vitamin b5), dexpanthenol	there is currently insufficient scientific evidence in this area in order to form a clear conclusion.	c
pycnogenolâ® (pinus pinaster ssp. atlantica)	pycnogenol has been used in adult patients with adhd to improve concentration, but does not appear to be more effective than placebo. further research is necessary in this area before a firm conclusion can be reached.	c
vitamin b6	some research suggests that pyridoxine supplementation alone or in combination with high doses of other b vitamins might help adhd. other studies show no benefit. further research is needed before a conclusion can be drawn.	c
zinc	early studies have shown a correlation between low serum free fatty acids and zinc serum levels in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. additional studies found that zinc supplements reduced hyperactive, impulsive, and impaired socialization symptoms, but did not reduce attention deficiency symptoms. zinc supplementation may be a more effective treatment for older children with higher body mass index (bmi) scores.	b
